Vadnais Heights city council member will not be charged for tossing campaign sign By KSTP A Vadnais Heights city council member will not face criminal charges for removing a mayoral candidate’s campaign sign following an investigation by Mounds View police.A police report obtained by 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS detailed the investigation into Katherine Doll Kanne, a Vadnais Heights city council member accused of pulling Vadnais Heights mayoral candidate Greg Urban’s campaign sign out of the ground and tossing it into a yard.Because Doll Kanne is a city council member, Mounds View police investigated the incident instead.According to the police report, Doll Kanne was caught on camera removing the sign, but because she did not damage or steal it, there was no crime to cite her with.Additionally, the police report stated Doll Kanne’s husband was also being investigated, with a witness claiming to have seen him stealing a campaign sign. However, because the witness wanted to remain anonymous and there wasn’t enough evidence to cite him, they couldn’t charge him either.Urban reportedly had 20 yard signs on two lots disappear, believed to have been stolen. Because of this, a camera was set up, which later captured Doll Kanne pulling a sign out of the ground.Urban said he had the family’s permission to place the signs in the lot.In a video posted on her campaign Facebook page, Doll Kanne acknowledged that she was the person tossing the sign, but said the property owners gave her permission by text to remove the signs. However, the family told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS they did not give Doll Kanne permission to remove any signs from the lot seen in the video.Doll Kanne initially agreed to a scheduled interview with 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS, but she walked away before the interview officially began.
