KFAN’s ‘Power Trip’ celebrates 25th anniversary with special guests and raunch — Columbia Heights Arts news

“The Power Trip Morning Show” may air on the Twin Cities’ biggest sports station, KFAN-FM, but it’s always been more about silliness than scores. It was appropriate, then, that the program’s 25th anniversary bash on Thursday at Treasure Island Casino was all about laughs. Here are three key takeaways. It was a family reunion. Hosts Chris Hawkey, Cory Cove and Paul “Meatsauce” Lambert spent the first third of the three-hour event circling each other on the stage as they traded verbal jabs. The biggest applause was reserved for Marney Gellner. While most of the other guests favored hoodies and sweatshirts, the groundbreaking Minnesota sports broadcaster sported leather pants that reflected her rock-star status. Two significant absences: former WCCO sports anchor Mark Rosen and former Vikings long snapper Mike Morris, who was instrumental to the show’s early success. It was a showcase for some of the state’s best comics. The nearly 2,800 fans who signed up before tickets sold out attended for free and even snagged complimentary cupcakes and candy after the show. But the greatest bargain was the evening’s bonus comedy lineup that included three absolute pros.
